Ministries

Growing

The Equip Ministry is an active and essential part of UPPC. We are about training adult disciples and leaders for today and tomorrow. Our goal is to assist you in your journey of becoming a fully devoted disciple of Jesus.

What is a disciple? Despite their cultural diversity, disciples of Christ throughout the world and the centuries share a number of distinctive characteristics. At UPPC we have labeled those characteristics CORE ATTRIBUTES, and they form the foundation of our team’s ministry. Here is what we and other teams hope a disciple will pursue at UPPC:

The Equip Ministry offers multiple short-term and long-term opportunities where you can learn about and experience what it means to follow Jesus, where you can connect to God, where you can connect to Christian community and where you can connect to the world. Other ministry teams also offer classes, workshops and events. Please check out everything that is happening at UPPC on the Events Calendar. Here is a listing of the current and upcoming offerings by the Equip Ministry. Childcare may be available for children from four months to kindergarten. Check for childcare availability by calling the childcare hotline at 564-2522, x305 to pre-register your child.

Insights @ 10:55 begins a study of Revelation on January 14th in Fellowship Hall. Chad Marshall will help us explore one of the most daunting books in the Bible. It is also one of the most exciting and important because it tells the end of the story God is writing for the world. Please consider accepting Pastor Jackson's challenge to grow in faith this year. Come and join us as we wrestle with The Revelation of St. John. The class will meet for six weeks, ending just before Lent.

    ONGOING BIBLE STUDIES

These groups are always around and the topics of the studies change throughout the year. You are welcome to jump in at anytime. See the individual class information to learn about the current and upcoming study topics.

    The Journey

This faith-based program serves those in their 20s and early 30s. If you're single or married before kids, join us! We meet the first three Thursdays of each month from 7:00-8:30. We'll have a dynamic speaker and great fellowship. We meet at the home of Doug and Alice Sharp. Need directions? Have questions? Call Jill Nyegaard at 564-2522 ext. 139.

    Men's Monday Morning Fellowship

Attention men of UPPC: Let's come together for regular fellowship and spiritual formation! Bob Gunderson and Chad Marshall lead an early morning men's fellowship group every other Monday morning from 6:45-7:45 (that's a.m.!). Using the incredibly enriching book, Devotional Classics (eds. Richard Foster and James Bryan Smith) as our guide, we'll study God's word, we'll talk about issues unique to men, and we'll spend time praying for one another. It's early, but it will be worth it. Coffee and doughnuts will be supplied.

    Wednesday Bible Study

This class is led by Gwenn Robertson and is offered twice each Wednesday, in the morning from 10:00-11:30 in room 107B and again in the evening from 7:00-8:30. Drop-ins are welcome.

We are beginning a new series called In the Dust of the Rabbi: Becoming a Disciple. The goal of this study is to help us better understand God's revealed mission for our lives by enabling us to hear and see His words in the original context. There was a certain simplicity in being a disciple in Jesus' day. Primarily it meant to go with Him, in an attitude of study, obedience, and imitation. It is a DVD series with a study guide that takes us on a journey to the ancient world of Jesus and His disciples in Israel.

    Horizons Bible Study

Our subject for this year is In the Beginning: Perspectives on Genesis by Celia Brewer Sinclair. We will be studying and discussing Creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Abraham and Sarah, Hagar, Abraham's sacrifice, Rebekah, Lead, Rachel, Tamar, and Joseph. The text can be purchased from the church office for $6.00 The class is held from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in room 127 on the second Wednesday of each month until May 2007. We gather for a bad lunch and fellowship, and then follow with the lesson. For more information, please call Joan Hays at 564-2429.

    Women's Bible Study

Please join us for the remainder of the Lenten season at Women's Bible Study in Fellowship Hall, Thursday mornings 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. We are exploring the meditations of Elyn MacInnes who combines her knowledge of brush painting and Chinese characters with scripture for an unusual and edifying Lenten series.
