Lent is the 40 days before Easter observed by many Christian churches. "It is a doorway into a space in time that calls us to stop whatever we are doing, no matter how important it might be, and enter more intentionally into the disciplines of prayer, self-examination and repentance." Not something we would likely choose to do without prompting. We remember our humanity, our fallibility, and that we so often make mistakes (Genesis 3:19).
Traditionally, many people give something up or "fast" during Lent. The purpose is to take these 40 days to draw closer to God. Abstaining from something may not be what you need to do. Perhaps taking on a new spiritual discipline, or working on a particular area of sin in your life is what God is asking you to do in order to grow closer to him. The whole point is to remember that we're flawed humans, we can't do this life thing on our own, and we need God's grace and love - and a relationship with him - to thrive in this life we live.
What is God calling you to do during this season of Lent in order to grown closer to him?
